What We Really Need (A Poem)

Somewhere in the Bahamas

To feed the hungry

     And home the homeless

     To heal the sick

     And comfort the lonely

     Bring comfort and joy

     To those who despair

     Bring us all together

     Breathing fresh clean air

     Fresh water to drink

     And healthy food to eat

     Uplifting conversation

     And safety when we speak

     Transport us to places

     We only dream about

Peace for each one of us

     And comforts that surround

    An end to our suffering

A place for one and all

     Where people join together

I know we can start small

     And growing in numbers

     Our little movement swells

     And gathering in joy

I know the time is now

     An enduring peace

Is that too much to ask

     But lighter is the load

     When many share the task

     A coming of all together

I know it can seem tough

     But visionary leaders

     Can help us just enough

I know there’s so much pain

     We all have to endure

     But an end in sight

I Hope there is for sure

     Our needs are always simple

     But forever overlooked

     By powerful people

     And sometimes even crooks

     This is our time

     Together we can come

     To help each other

And raise us up as one

     We know what we need

     This always is for sure

I know we can all do this

     And together we’ll succeed
